 Kent Jacobs: Killed for $200?"We have accepted that Kent is not coming home and there is a possibility his remains will never be recovered," his family was quoted as saying in a 2009 statement from the missing-persons advocacy group Let's Bring Them Home. "It is with great sadness that we stand with the family of Kent Jacobs to declare their beloved son and brother legally deceased," said LaDonna Meredith, president of Let's Bring Them Home. In August 2002, the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office announced that it was treating Jacobs' disappearance as a murder. "Information has been developed which tends to indicate Kent was a victim of a homicide," Sheriff Moose Butler said then. Butler said investigators received a credible tip telling them where to find Jacobs' body and who may have killed him. He said several people may be involved. The body was not found and no arrests were made, however. Kent Jacobs disappeared March 10, 2002. That Sunday morning in March, Kent woke up and peeked at his Mother who was in the den. That was the last time she saw him. He was wearing a Harley-Davidson sweatshirt, blue jeans and Reebok sneakers. His family says he has mental retardation and requires medication. Kent is physically 42 years old but has the mental capacity of a 9 year old. Kent left to visit his childhood neighborhood, the Colonial Heights area of Hope Mills, North Carolina, about two miles down the road from his home. He had done this regularly for the past 25 years. According to his family, the neighborhood had changed drastically and was filled with unsavory characters. His family believed Kent would not sense danger. On that day, he was carrying approximately $200. His mother contacted authorities after Kent did not meet his 5:00-6:00 p.m. curfew. Her daughter, Kent's younger sister, says her brother had a routine and that routine was disrupted. He had never been late for curfew. Authorities have been searching for Kent, but continue to hit dead ends. He disappeared only a few yards from Interstate 95, which is a major highway that stretches from New York to Florida. Kent is 5'6" and weighs 150 pounds. He is American Indian with brown eyes and black hair. He has a small cross tattoo on his upper left arm. A $15,000 reward is being offered to anyone who can provide information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) involved in the disappearance of Kent Jacobs.
